What kit does a grassroots club really need?
Grassroots clubs run on volunteers and tight budgets, so every pound spent on kit needs to count. The most useful items are usually training tops, hoodies or jackets for players, plus embroidered coaches' wear so officials are easy to identify on matchdays.
This guide covers how to plan a club order, add names, numbers and sponsors, and keep costs sensible without the kit looking cheap.
Which garments should a club order?
- Training tops or technical t-shirts for players.
- Hoodies or sweatshirts for warm-ups and travel.
- Jackets or softshells for coaches and officials.
- Bags for kit and equipment.
- Parent and supporter merchandise, which can help raise funds.

Embroidery or print for club kit?
Embroidery suits club badges on coaches' jackets, hoodies and polos, giving a smart, durable finish. Printing, especially DTF printing, suits technical sportswear, individual names and numbers, and colourful sponsor logos. Many clubs use both: an embroidered badge on the chest and printed names and numbers on the back. Our guide to custom hoodies: embroidery or print goes into more detail.
How do you add names, numbers and sponsors?
- Collect one list of each player's name, number and size.
- Check spellings carefully before sending.
- Gather sponsor logos as high-quality files and agree where each one goes.
- Send everything together so it can be built into one quote and proof.
How can a club keep kit costs down?
- Choose one style and colour for the whole club, so sizes can be passed on as children grow.
- Keep branding to the positions that matter most.
- Order once per season rather than in small batches.
- Ask a local business to sponsor the kit in return for their logo.
- Sell supporter hoodies or bags to parents to help fund players' kit.
How do you handle new players mid-season?
New players join throughout the season. Because we keep your club badge and sponsor artwork on file, adding a few extra tops later is simple, and they still match the rest of the squad. Keeping a small stock of common sizes also helps.
What about winter layers?
Coaches and volunteers stand on the touchline in all weathers. Our guide to softshells, gilets and fleeces helps you choose warm layers that take a badge well.

Frequently asked questions about club kit
Can you print names and numbers on club kit?
Yes. DTF printing handles individual names and numbers well. Send us a list of names, numbers and sizes and we will build them into your quote.
Can staff and players' kit be ordered at the same time?
Yes. Many clubs order embroidered coaches' jackets and printed players' tops in one go, which keeps branding consistent and simplifies delivery.
Can you add sponsor logos?
Yes. Send us each sponsor logo as a high-quality file and tell us where it should go, and we will include it on your proof.
Is there a minimum order?
We welcome small orders as well as large ones, so a sole trader kitting out one van and a club ordering a full squad are both looked after. Tell us your quantity when you ask for a quote and we will advise on the best value option.
Can I see a proof before you make my order?
Yes. Once your logo is prepared we can send a visual showing the position and size on the garment for you to approve before anything is embroidered or printed.
