Why choose an embroidered gift this Christmas?
A personalised gift shows you thought about the person, not just the price tag. Embroidery adds to that because the name, initials or message is stitched into the fabric with thread, so it does not wash off or peel. A stitched name on a towel or a baby blanket is something people keep for years, long after the wrapping paper has gone.
At Inastitch we embroider and print gifts for families, friends, clubs and businesses from our Worcestershire workshop, and we post across the UK. This guide covers gift ideas for different people on your list, what to send us when you order, and how to work out when to order so your gifts arrive in time for Christmas.
What are the best embroidered Christmas gift ideas?
Teddies and soft toys
A teddy with a child's name or a short message on its jumper or foot makes a simple first Christmas or new baby gift. Keep the wording short so it stays clear and easy to read at a small size.
Baby blankets and comforters
Blankets take a name and date of birth well, and many parents keep them long after the baby has outgrown them. Soft, light colours with a contrasting thread give the neatest finish.
Towels and bathrobes
Personalised towels suit couples, grandparents and children who are learning to recognise their own things. Initials or a first name along the border is a classic look, and towels from our Towel City range are made to take embroidery.
Hoodies and sweatshirts
A hoodie with a name, a nickname or a small embroidered design on the chest works for teenagers, students and adults. Browse our hoodies and pick a colour, then tell us what you would like stitched or printed on it.
Bags and accessories
Tote bags, rucksacks and wash bags are useful gifts that suit almost anyone. A name or initials on the front panel makes them easy to spot. See our bags for styles that take a logo or name well.
You can find more ideas in our gifts and personalisation range, and see how we approach gifts on our personalised gifts page.
Who are personalised gifts best for?
New babies and first Christmases
A name and the year turns a blanket, comforter or teddy into a keepsake. If you are buying for a baby due near Christmas, a gift with just the year or a short message works until you know the name.
Grandparents and families
Matching items for a family, such as towels or hoodies with each person's name, make a gift that the whole household shares. Ordering them together keeps the thread colours and lettering consistent.
Teams, clubs and staff
Club committees and small businesses often give players, volunteers or staff a branded hoodie or bag at Christmas. If that is what you are planning, our guide to corporate gifts covers the details, and our team can advise on quantities and sizes.
What should you send us when ordering a personalised gift?
A clear brief means we can give you a quote and a proof without going back and forth. When you get in touch, include:
- The item you want, such as a towel, blanket, teddy, hoodie or bag, and the colour and size.
- The exact wording, with the spelling, capitals and any punctuation exactly as you want them stitched.
- Where the name or design should go, for example the left chest, the corner of a blanket or the border of a towel.
- Your preferred thread colour, or ask us to suggest one that stands out on the fabric.
- Any logo or artwork, as the best quality file you have.
- The date you need the gift by.
Double-check names before you approve your proof. Embroidery cannot be unpicked cleanly once it is stitched, so a spelling mistake means starting again with a new item.
How do you work out your last order date for Christmas?
The last safe date to order depends on three things: how long production takes for your order, how long the delivery will take, and whether you need time to wrap or post the gift on yourself.
- Start from the day you want the gift in your hands, not Christmas Day. If you are posting it on to someone else, allow for that second delivery too.
- Allow for postage. Carriers publish their own last recommended posting dates for Christmas, and these get busy in December.
- Allow time to approve your proof. A quick reply keeps your order moving.
- Ask us for a realistic timescale. Timescales depend on the item, the quantity and the design, so we confirm one with your quote and tell you straight away if your date is tight.
The simplest advice is to order as early as you can. Orders placed in November give much more room for proofs, any changes and postage than orders placed in the week before Christmas.
Embroidery or print: which is better for a gift?
Embroidery gives a raised, textured finish that lasts and suits names, initials and simple designs on towels, blankets, hoodies and bags. DTF printing transfers a full-colour design onto the fabric, so it suits photos, detailed artwork and designs with lots of colours, such as a family photo on a t-shirt.
If you are not sure which to choose, send us the design and the item and we will tell you which method will give the cleanest result. For more on budget-friendly ideas, read our guide to personalised gifts for every budget.
Can you order personalised gifts if you live near our workshop?
Yes. We post orders across the UK, and customers in Worcestershire and the West Midlands can arrange local collection. If you are local, our pages on embroidery in Bromsgrove and embroidery in Stourbridge explain how we work with customers nearby.
Frequently asked questions about personalised Christmas gifts
Is there a minimum order for personalised gifts?
We welcome single gifts as well as larger orders, so one personalised towel and a set of family hoodies are both looked after. Tell us the quantity when you ask for a quote.
Can I see a proof before my gift is made?
Yes. Once the wording or design is prepared we can send a visual showing the position and size for you to approve before anything is embroidered or printed.
Can you match a specific colour?
We match thread and print colours as closely as the materials allow and show you the result on the proof. Thread colours can look slightly different on different fabrics, so we flag anything you should know first.
Can I supply my own item to be embroidered?
Ask us first. Some items embroider well and others do not, depending on the fabric and where the design needs to go, so we will check before you send anything.
Do you deliver anywhere in the UK?
Yes. Orders can be dispatched to addresses across the UK, and local collection can be arranged for customers nearby.
